Seeking Common Ground

condo block partySpotlight Community Talent To Make Members Feel Appreciated

Of the many ways to find common ground, events are the most fun.  Underneath we all want to be part of a community.  Reach out.

The first few times there may only be a few participants in your community events, but well planned events bring people back.

Pay attention to the demographic of your neighborhood when you spread the word. Send postcards, flyers, or go door to door to get the news out about your event.

Note addresses with seniors or disabled who may need special assistance, families with small children, musicians, craftsmen or hobbyists.

These people can be invited to participate in events. Make note of homes with alternate time schedules (those who work nights and sleep days). Contact them with a postcard or note instead.

Including music in your event that suits a wide audience makes it fun and eases tensions. Make a community spotlight part of every event. Then give everyone a chance in the spotlight.

Take loads of pictures and post them on the website with captions that include names of participants. Also offer each participant a page in your site, so others can find them. This extra effort to get everyone involved will pay off in a vibrant active community over time. (End of article.)

As our society has moved toward smaller families and more singles, being part of an active community becomes more important to us. Acknowledgement of our abilities by our community makes active participation more rewarding. We feel appreciated and want to give back.

Make everyone feel appreciated for attending and you may find your attendance grows. Then find small ways everyone can give back at each event.
